Email is the bane of modern existence.
Here are some time-saving tips:
- Don't check email first thing in the morning
- Train people to call if it's a real emergency
- Train people to expect responses within 24 hours, never immediately answer anything
- Start checking email only at certain times of the day -- for example 11am and 4pm
- Eliminate all unnecessary email sources
- refine spam filtering
- highlight emails TO: only you
- declassify list emails, better yet send them straight to a subfolder
- unsubscribe from any list you haven't read in the last 2 weeks
- unsubscribe from "news" "special offers" etc. from websites that you signed up to but never use or need
